This is often confusing, so it is best to double check with
us, but here is how you can determine your frame price:
Take the length and width of the artwork and add these
dimensions. The total is called United Inches (UI). For example,
if your painting is 16 x 20, it will be 36 United Inches in
size. (Remember, we will cut your frame 3/16 larger as an
allowance).
Next, determine the width of the moulding you want. For
example, you may wish to use a 172 moulding which is 3 inches
wide. Now, looking at the chart- follow the
left hand column down until you find your UI. In this case you
are looking for 36. Then go across the chart to the right until
you are under the 3 inch column. The number in the box is 8.3
and is how much moulding we will need to make one 16 x 20 frame
.
Finally, look up the price per foot on the
price sheet for the 172 and multiply that price by the
length of moulding you computed above. If you wish to add a cap
or another moulding pretend your painting grew by the width of
the moulding. Lets stick with the 172 that is 3 inches wide. The
outside measurements now is 16 + 3 + 3 by 20 + 3 + 3, or 22 x
26. Your new UI for the cap is 48. Look up the number of feet of
moulding you will need for the cap on the chart.
For example, if you are planning to use a 143, as a cap,
which is 1 inch wide, you will need 9.3 feet of moulding. If
this is too confusing, please give us a call and we will compute
the price over the phone for you.
Since our frames are wholesale, we suggest that you mark them
up by a factor of 2.3 times.
